KITULGALA – ADVENTURE BECKONS

Kitulgala is located in the west of Sri Lanka and is considered one of the wettest places in the country. It is situated in the Wet Zone rainforest and is also considered an important spot in terms of biodiversity.

Kitulgala was used in 1956 for the filming of the Academy Award-winning 'The Bridge on the River Kwai'. Now, nothing remains but the concrete foundations of the bridge which can still be seen.

In more recent times, Kitulgala has become famous as an adventurer's paradise. It is now a hub for water-based adventure activities such as whitewater rafting and canyoning. Its surrounding forest patches have also made it the perfect place to explore for nature enthusiasts.

Birds such as the Mountain Hawk Eagle, Crested Treeswift and Layard's Parakeet are all found in these parts as well as several types of mammals and insects.

Kitulgala offers you the perfect backdrop for water-based adventure sports as well as a calming and educational walk through its forests.
